Well done to Paul Reynolds (19:04) and Colette Tuohy (19: 14, a new women’s course record) who were our race winners today in the Clogher Community 5k. The first three men and women and first o50s won trophies. Congratulations to Brendan Murphy who was part of the organising team.
He says ” the event was greatly supported by Mayo AC and Westport AC among others and we are very grateful”. There were 80 finishers – prizewinners listed in red :
Patrick Jordan our US based member ran a couple of half marathons in New York recently.
Saturday, July 14, the 2018 “Firecracker Half Marathon” in Rockaway, Queens, New York, took place on the boardwalk next to the sea. He says “I ran a molasses like time of 2:23:39 in high heat. The course was great, but the time was about 20 minutes off my usual half marathon times”.
The following day (July 15), he ran the inaugural Coney Island Half Marathon, Brooklyn, NY, also on the boardwalk in front of the sea. “The race started amid heavy rains and with equally heavy legs I crossed the finish line at 2:37:34, including having walked part of the course after hitting mile 10”.
The times were subpar, but the effort was good to knock out two halves within 24 hours of one another”.
Patrick’s next race is another half marathon in Rockaway, New York on Saturday, August 25.
Next Saturday July 28, we are hosting the Mayo Athletics Co Board 10k road Championships incorporated in the Balla 10k. Race starts at 7pm. It’s a club league event for members. See our events calendar for details.
