The National Indoor League 2022 Round 1 took place on Sunday last at the National Indoor Arena. The schedule had a full range of track and field events for league competitors and guests.
There were two series of 60m events for men, with a number of heats in each.
Mayo AC sprinter Declan Owens ran 7.59 for 4th place in heat 3 of series 1.
The fastest time of the day was 6.67 recorded by Israel Olatunde UCD AC.
Elsewhere on Sunday the Dublin Masters Cross Country Championships at St Anne’s Park attracted a record 500 runners.
In his first masters race Mick Clohisey Raheny Shamrock AC won the men’s 6k race in 20:25. He turns 36 on Thursday this week. Clohisey won the Fields of Athenry 10k for the eighth time on St Stephen’s Day and the Ferrycarrig 5 mile on January 3 in 24:39. If he competes he’ll be one of the favourites to win the National Masters cross country at Castlelyons Co Cork on February 13.
The Dublin women’s masters 4k winner was Barbara Cleary Donore Harriers AC F45 in 11:32 with Maria McCambridge DSD AC also F45 second in 11:48.
National Masters cross country
Anyone interested in competing in the National Masters cross country is asked to get in touch with Colette Tuohy who has organised some weekend get-togethers in preparation for the event.
Mayo AC runners will join athletes from other Mayo clubs to make up a county team.
As usual there will be individual medals to be won in all age categories, as well as club teams o35, o50, and county teams.
