Weekend round-up
Sun 27th July: Some members idea of a post race warm down is to run another race within 18 hours. So a ‘couple’ of Balla finishers headed to Castleconnor in West Co Sligo for their annual 5k this afternoon. Following her 3rd place in Balla on Saturday evening, Sarah Syron ran this flat one lap course – a joy surely after Balla – and was 1st woman finisher in 19.33. Well done, Sarah.
Fellow traveller John Byrne finished 2nd in a fast 16:15 behind race winner Richard Gorman (Sligo AC) who won in 15.46. Young Cian Mulrooney was 3rd 16.25. John, who was 3rd in Balla had a real battle with Cian up to 4k. According to him “it was a great race, with a lovely flat course on country roads, great atmosphere and an unbelievable spread of food afterward in the Community Centre – all for 10 euro”. Thanks John, and you can take Monday off training, ok? 264 took part.
Congratulations to Michaela Walsh of Swinford AC who won both the hammer and the javelin at the final day of the Glo Health Juvenile Track and Field Championships in Tullamore.
In an unusual throws double, Walsh threw a personal best of 60.83m in the hammer and 42.85m in the javelin.
