Weekend round up Belleek 10k, Carlow 5k

The Annual CRYS Jingle Bells Jog took place on Sunday morning (December 4) Sean Hynes was our representative in the south-east and he was delighted with third place overall and a 5k pb coming home in 16:40.

Race winner was Eoin Hughes Letterkenny AC only six seconds ahead of Sean, while Leah Lawler St Laurence O’Toole AC was first woman in 19:08.
All funds raised will go towards providing youth work supports to young people in Carlow through Carlow Regional Youth Services.

It was also sunny and chilly for the big local race – the annual Belleek 10k in Ballina. It’s a one lap course starting on road outside the track and finishing outside the soccer club by the Moy.
Local Easkey athlete Dessie Burke was the winner in 34:07, 2nd Michael Canty Moy Valley AC 35:01, 3rd David Hickey Westport AC 35:31 – second last week in Hollymount.
In the women’s race Norah Pieterse Mayo AC followed up her Hollymount 10k win with another excrllrny victory crossing the line in 37:42. Sarah Byrne (2nd at Hollymount 40:13) chased her home again this week in a brilliant 40:07, edging ever closer to that elusive sub 40. Caroline Coulter Tireragh AC was third in 41:36.
