Results: Athlone Half, Padraig Cullina 8k, Westport Parkrun 5k

Our top man John Byrne underlined his winning form and fast time in the Charlestown 10k last Saturday with another brilliant victory today in the Athlone Flatline Half Marathon. John led 939 finishers home in 71:39, 14 seconds quicker than his National Half time last month, and over a minute clear of the field led by Peter Mooney of the Marathon Club of Ireland.

Finishing 11th overall and first woman in 75:21 was Maria McCambridge of DSD. Colette Tuohy was our leading woman, fifth overall in 86:43 and ahead of a great run from that Sligo AC warrior Lucy Brennan, 1st W50 in 87:59  and 7th place. Sarah Syron was 8th  – another fine run in 88:34. Sarah was one of twelve recording PBs on the day including a number running their first Half Marathons.

We had a big group of runners there, many of them entered weeks ago, and most are preparing for the Dublin Marathon in 6 wks – 43 days, no pressure!  Well done to all of our finishers in Athlone …finishing times:
