Tooreen 10k 2011 Women first three: Louise O’Rourke, Rena Deely (both Craughwell AC) with winner Ann Murray (Mayo AC)
There was a good turnout of runners and walkers (approx 60) for the
3rd annual Tooreen 10k on Wednesday evening organised by Sean Dooner, with help from Michael McGrath, Ann Marie Tiernan and Helen from Mayo Cancer Support
The course is out 2k, a loop of 6k and back via same 2k. It is mostly
undemanding on the way round- at times open bogscape, lakes, rural
sparsely populated area with a bit of up and down at 6/7k. The final k
has two short sharp hills and then an upward drag to the finish.
Conditions were dry with a fresh breeze at times. Clubs from Galway to
Sligo were represented and Fit4Lifers enjoyed the low key atmosphere.
Anto Devaney was the winner. He won the Meelick 7k, final race in
Swinford series on previous Wednesday in 25.40, was 2nd in Ballindine
GYOT last Saturday). Ann Murray was first woman, as she was in
Meelick. Una McGrath (50.32) cut another bit off her 10k best time
with the help of Christy O’Malley over the final section. She is
looking to use the 3 race 5k series starting June 21st to get under 50
mins in Balla 10k.
First three men and women received medals and there was a bib number
draw for 12 spot prizes. A very enjoyable evening.
