Ten medals won at National Masters Indoors T&F
Six members competed in the National Masters Indoors Track & Field Championship in Athlone AIT Arena today. Their efforts were over a seven hour span – noon to 7pm – as many competed in multiple events in a very competitive timetable. Conditions were tough in the early part of the day particularly for endurance events. The air in the arena was very dry due to the sunny day. However, with many windows opened there was a welcome improvement as the evening progressed. It was a disappointing day for sprinter John Walkin who won the first heat of the 60 metres in a season’s best time of 7.66 only to suffer a painful hamstring strain as he crossed the line. In the second heat the first three ran faster times and they claimed the medals leaving John pipped in fourth place as the third place finisher ran 7.65.
Mags Glavey led the again continuing her award winning golden years trail with victories in all three of the races she completed. Our other four members fought hard for their silver and bronze medals, with Mary Roache and Martin Peyton competing in both track and field.
Congratulations to all our National medals winners – here’s how they fared:
