The Mayo Outdoor track and field championships took place today at Claremorris. We had two members competing and both won gold medals.
Noelle Kilduff won the senior women’s 100 and 200 metres and Declan Owens won his three senior men’s events : 200, 400, and 100 metres in a 12.2 pb.
Congratulations to Noelle and Declan.
Three races have taken place in the 2019 Galway 5k Series which has been running since 2006.
Our lone competitor so far is Tony O’Malley who has been in excellent form in recent 10ks and continued to perform with brilliant results in all three of these very popular events. He finished 15th overall in the first race at Caltra on April 30 with a new 5k pb 17:52. At Craughwell on May 7 he finished 22nd overall in 18:11, and at Loughrea on May 14 ran 13th overall in 18:17.
The Galway 5k Series has exploded in popularity over the years, to the point where online entry sells out in a matter of minutes.
The average field in the three races so far this year is 709. The final three Tuesday evening races in the current series are at Athenry, Tuam and Clarinbridge.
Another reminder that our 10th Annual Mayo AC Summer 5k Series starts on Tuesday evening May 21 at Claremorris at 8pm sharp. All welcome – run, walk or jog.
Please arrive early.
Members who are not running are requested to help with this event or at any of the series races.
