Sun and fun at Claremorris 5k, updated results database
It was another lovely sunny evening for the second Summer Series 5k at Claremorris. The gentle undulations on this course was a nice variation from last week’s test at Lough Lannagh. Lots of swallows swirling about overhead having an evening midge-fest, the midges who escaped were treating themselves to dessert on Danny Greene’s neck and ears as he marshalled the main gate. Another well organised event with the treat of a fast smooth track finish and then time to chat, hydrate, recover and warm down. Bernadette Burke W50 finished in 28:54 and with her husband is preparing for her first Half in Achill (6 July) She said ” the sun came out adding to the already warm and welcoming atmosphere. Thanks to the marshals who were full of encouragement – they certainly helped us along. Like the Castlebar 5k last week it was very enjoyable -despite the tough parts!”. Well done to all and especially to the top 3 men/women 1 Michael Rocke 17:44 (4th last week in 18:07) ; 2nd again Joe Hastings 17:48; 3 Noel Gibbons 17:57; 1 Ann Lennon 19:02; 2 Edel Reilly 20:30; 3 Jacqueline O’Donnell 20:34. 185 finishers. Some stats (race 1 in brackets): % sub 20: 9.7 (9.3), sub 25: 46 (40) sub 30: 85 (75). Probably lots of PBs and improved times. Ann McDonnell knocked a huge chunk off her best time with a 22:34 finish, and will be looking to sub 22 next week in the flatlands of Ballinrobe – no pressure.
