Congratulations to Melbourne based Mayo AC member Sinéad Diver who finished 6th in last Sunday’s Great North Run in 69:32.

In February 2019, the Belmullet native clocked a 68:55 PB to break her own masters record and finish third in the Marugame International Half Marathon, one of the leading and longest running road races in Japan.

The Great North Run women’s race was won by Brigid Koskei (Kenya) in 64:28.

The Great North Run is not eligible for record purposes but Kosgei’s run was 23 seconds quicker than Joyciline Jepkosgei’s world record of 64:51 set in Valencia in 2017.

In 5th place was Sinead’s training partner Charlotte Purdue (GBR) who ran a 68.10 pb to move to No 3 in UK all time rankings behind Paula Radcliffe and Liz McColgan.

She ran 2:25.38 in the London Marathon last April when Sinéad finished seventh in a 2:24.11 pb.

Ellie Pashley finished 7th place in the Great North Run –  six seconds behind Sinéad in 69:38.

Both Ellie and Sinéad are Olympic qualifiers in line to represent Australia in the marathon at the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday August 2, 2020.
