The Launceston Running Festival took place in Tasmania, Australia on December 13. The festival normally takes place in June but was postponed this year due to Covid-19.
The festival is one of Tasmania’s premiere running events featuring a half marathon, 10km, 5km and includes the Tasmanian Road Running Championships.
Belmullet native Sinéad Diver – a Mayo AC member – competed in a very competitive C5 Pro Solutions 10k and finished 5th in 32:16. The winner was Genevieve Gregson (Victoria) in 32:00, just outside her own course record 31:58 – missing out on a $2,000 bonus by two seconds.
Sixteen seconds separated the first five across the line.
The top eleven women finishers were all under 35 minutes.
In June 2018 Sinéad successfully defended her title in this event when she broke through the 32 minute barrier with an official time of 31:59 – a brilliant new personal best.
Her 2020 Launceston 10k finish underlines consistent form. It will be an excellent confidence booster for her marathon training with Melbourne Track Club ahead of representing Australia in the 32nd Olympiad in Tokyo next July/August.
