Saturday’s results: Athlone Half, Charlestown 10k, Clarinbridge Half

Athlone Flatline Half was the big race of the day with 762 finishers, many of them laying down a marker for Dublin Marathon in seven weeks time. Congratulations to Norah Newcombe who led the Mayo AC runners home with an excellent second place in the wompen’s race in 80:26. She finished just over 30 seconds behind Pauline Curley (Tullamore Harriers) who has been in great form winning recently at Tullamore Half, Derry Half and Longford Marathon. Over at the centre of the universe the 3rd Charlestown 10k was won by our trainer Matt Bidwell (GCH) in 32:28, just four seconds inside John Byrne’s course record. Well done Ann Lennon (Mayo AC) who finished first in the women’s race in 39:02. Kathy Gleeson (Claremorris) was second in 39:36, with Colette Tuohy (Mayo AC)  third 40:12. Anto Devaney (Mayo AC) was first o40 37:02.

Other winners: Men:  2 Tom Prendergast (Craughwell AC) 36:43, 3 David Kearins (Sligo AC) 36:50.

Inaugural Clarinbridge Half Marathon: Well done Timmie Glavey who finished second in 78:21. Winner was Michael O’Connor (GCH) in 75:54.
