Roundup of the last week
The busy racing season is very much in evidence, with the last week seeing races over many distances. The Mayo AC – Fit4Life 5k season kicked off in style with over 200 participants running through the Castlebar streets (See race report on this web site).
A roundup of some of the other events are as follows:
2nd Annual Milltown ‘Run for Ollie’ 10k took place last Saturday. Mayo Ac’s Collette Tuohy won the Womens race in 39:10, while the Men’s race was won by Michael Shannon, Kilnaboy in 33:31. Anto Devaney ran a great race to finish 3rd in 35:43 and was followed by Andrew Lynskey in 37:16. Other Mayo AC finishers included: Chris Gallagher 42:54, Owen Mongan 43:48, John Fahy 49:11, John Timothy 49:31, Chris O’Connell 50:03, Jim Donnelly 55:46.
The 2nd annual Portumna 100km\50km\Marathon and5k also took place last weekend. Brendan Hession completed the marathon in a brilliant 3:36:23. This was Brendan’s first marathon, having only taken up running recently through Fit4life. Brendan followed up the marathon with a speed session when he ran the 5K in Castlebar only 3 days later!!
Annaghdown 10K took place on Tuesday evening last and was won by Matt Bidwell (GCH) in 32:41. Timmie Glavey from Mayo AC ran his fastest ever 10k and finished 3rd in a brilliant 33:31. Timmie has been running excellently throughout the 5k Galway series, and evidence of this was seen last Tuesday night.
