Rotterdam Marathon

TJ McHugh was among many Irish runners and thousands of participants at the start line of the Rotterdam marathon today. This marathon is well known for producing fast times.
The Claremorris man went to the line with great expectations following excellent times in recent races and hundreds of good training miles in his legs. And he really went for it today.
A fast 75 minutes to half way was a portent of a sub 2.30, if he got a negative split second half. However, as they say ‘it wasn’t to be’. “My legs went at 21 and I was crawling at 23, so pulled out”, said the text message. A heartbreaking disappointment for our webmaster. Lets hope he comes back strongly after a well deserved rest. There will be other days.
As can be seen in other places there were mixed results for Irish athletes hoping to achieve the Olympic “A” Standard.
