Some results from the past week. Good to have some more local racing opportunities around Connacht on this road to recovery.

Slieve Aughty Challenge August 14:

A 10k over mixed terrain through woods and open mountain near Kilchreest Co Galway.
Winner: Eric Laurado 51:18
8th Darren Brewer (Mayo AC) 64:25 – “a really tough course, lot of climbing under wet muddy conditions but really enjoyable”.
89 finishers.
Also competing creditably at Slieve Aughty was new member Colin Clancy who ran the 22k event over similar terrain. He finished 7th in 1:57.12. Winner was Marcus Bishop in 1:40.43.
68 finishers .

August 18: Cloontia 6k, third race in Swinford AC’s Harvest Series.
Edel Reilly Mayo AC led the field home; other members completing the 3k uphill + 3k down one lap course were:
Dee Corcoran, Ray Clarke, Roger Clarke,  Andy Neary and Tom Hunt.
Next week’s race:  August 18 – Swinford 5k. Amenity Centre F12 H593, 6.30 reg, 7pm start.
On Friday August 20 Ballinamore AC hosted their annual 10k and 5k races on a very wet evening on two separate testing courses. First events in the county since lockdown. Two Leitrim Olympians were in the field:
Colin Griffin (Ballinamore AC) won the one lap 10k in 33:02 and Breege Connolly (Derry) was first woman across the line in the out and back 5k in 17:16.
Fiona Gettings (Longford AC) was first woman home in the 10k in 39:07. The 5k winner was Michael Morgan (Sligo AC) in a fast 15:10. He has developed into a fine young athlete, coached by Dermot McDermott. Morgan sets off this weekend to take up a scholarship at Providence College in the US.
Three Mayo AC runners made the trip over to Leitrim. In the 10k Johnny Cribbin was first M50 in 41.52 and Breege Cribbin  finished in 57.23, while Tom Hunt ran the 5k 23:53. All gun times.
