Results European Masters Championships 10k road race
Stephen Monaghan Mayo AC M50 was in action again today at the XXII European Masters Championships which began on Wednesday September 21.
He ran in the 8k cross-country on Sunday last, and today he was among 13 Irish runners in the 10k road race.
Today’s race had 332 finishers – men and women, with all age categories competing.
The course was on the roads adjacent to Stadio Adriatico-G.Cornacchia.
Stephen finished in 39:38, a second behind Ian Egan M55 Castlegar AC.
Stephen says “the 10k today was brutal. 16:00 start time, clear skies and 26 degrees. Absolutely savage. That’s my excuse for a way slower time than I wanted. I’m probably a stone lighter, so looking forward to dinner tonight!”
Great running in those conditions – well done Stephen!
The M50 winner was Frederic Gilbert FR in 32:54.
In the M55 category the winner Miguel Molero Echwein GER ran 32:54 – a world record.
It looks like a number of Irish women won 10k category medals, which may help move Ireland up from their pre race 13th place of 33 countries on the medal table.
