Congratulations to Pauline Moran who is the 2018 Sports Stars Awards winner for Athletics announced today in the Western People.
Pauline won the Award for her magnificent championship medal winning achievements during the year.
Her excellent performances across a range of championship events from February to November brought her remarkable national and international success. She competed in National indoor and outdoor track, cross country and road events as well as International cross country. Pauline has also been a regular winner in local races in her masters category as well as making top three overall finishes.
She’s an inspiration to all our members and we are very proud to have her as a member.
Her hard work, versatile athletic talent, commitment, and not least her positive attitude and enthusiasm has enabled her to achieve this well deserved success.
Pauline joins a select group of Mayo AC members who have also received Sports Stars Awards over the 49 years since they were introduced in 1970.
They include: Catherine Conway, (2010), Mary Gleeson (2008), John Byrne (2006 and 2012), Breege Blehein (2005), Mayo AC women’s team (2011 – Colette Tuohy, Mary Gleeson, Kathy Connolly, Sarah Syron), Norah Newcombe (2016) , Mags Glavey and Sinéad Diver (2015) Anne Lennon (1999, 2000, 2002), Paddy Murray (1991), while Mary Naylor took the 1982 award, then as a member of Ballina AC.
