Patrick Moran: European Masters Championships Indoors

We had two members competing in Spain this week. First up the 12th Annual European Masters Championships Indoor was held in Madrid, 19-24 March
Our Galway-based Shrule native Patrick Moran Mayo AC travelled to Madrid to compete in these championships in the  M60 Pentathlon. He was part of a large Irish contingent competing in races throws, and jumps. They finished 10th on the medals table of the 32 countries taking part.

It was Patrick’s first time to compete in Europe – he’s an experienced contestant in Irish and British pentathon events.
On Thursday March 22. Patrick finished 5th in heat of 200 metres individual in 30:55 a PB.
The pentathlon events followed on Friday/ Saturday March 23.24: his results were –
60 metres hurdles 13.49 330 points
5k shot 8.52m 516 pts
High jump 1.30m 536 pts
Long jump 3.74m 433 pts
1000 metres 4:58.03 213 pts
Pentathlon total 2028 – 20th place M60 overall..

On Saturday 24th he ran anchor on the Irish M55+ 4x200m relay team: Joe Gough, Peadar McGing, Michael Cornyn, Patrick Moran. They finished fourth in 1:54.02 a new Irish M55 team record.
