NW Games trio: l-r Shane O’Rourke Tuam AC, Matthew Flynn (Olympian AC) Declan Owens (Mayo AC)

It’s getting to the end of another increasingly event filled calendar year on road, cross country and T&F, and here’s a couple more results – we’ve added over 130 posts here so far in 2018.

On Saturday (Dec 29) Declan Owens competed in the 4th annual North West Games at Athlone AIT. He ran in two sprint races producing an excellent 7.77 pb in the 60m (0.02 faster than in the Baseline event a couple of weeks ago), and 25.47 in the 200m –  half a second quicker than he ran in the same event in last year’s games. Declan finished 3rd in the 200 and thinks it’s an indoor pb.
Also competing there was Breege Staunton ‘resurrecting’ her sprinting career in the masters 200 metres. The event was held over two heats and she finished a very creditable fifth of eleven overall in 33:63. Well done to both.
North West games results are on
