North Sligo AC held their annual Good Friday 5k this evening in aid of Friends of Sligo Hospital. They had a great turnout of 233 finishers in excellent racing conditions. Eamonn McAndrew M40 of the host club was the race winner in 16:03.
Norah Newcombe (Pieterse) was back racing after her brilliant run in the National 10k last Sunday when she won an individual bronze W35 and led the Mayo AC W35 team to silver.
Her aim was to break 18 in Grange and she succeeded with a great time 17:42 and 9th overall, to win the women’s race by almost two minutes from Aisling Van Rensburg and Mari Johnston.
She says “I’m delighted with it, it’s the fastest 5k I’ve run since returning home from Seoul almost 5 years ago. Lovely scene down there and ideal temperatures for running this evening.”
Weather looks good for 10th Kilmovee 10k tomorrow – it’s a Club League race, 1pm start.
