New Year, new track

There was a good turnout at Claremorris to check out the new track during the inaugural opening hours today – New Year’s Day. A few members took the opportunity to experience the surface – a welcome change from hard uneven flooded roads during these short mid-winter days. Jim Ryan of Claremorris AC was there to oversee the day and hear  positive reactions of runners, from families with toddlers, club runners, juveniles, and a few of the usual suspects among the creaking geriatrics. Jim anticipates that the track will be ready for  Mayo Championships in a few months time. A lot done, more to do, but a universally welcome milestone in Mayo Athletics. Like the London 2012 ‘legacy’ concept, this venture may well ‘inspire a generation’.  Meanwhile, Jim says the track will be available to those who wish to use it – make sure the gate is kept closed (coin operated turnstiles will be in place soon). Fit4Life will resume there on Thursday night 10th January.
