New PBs for all three Irish runners in World Athletics Half Marathon Championships
There were brilliant performances by the three Irish competitors in the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships in Gdynia, Poland today.
All three finished with personal best times. Hugh Armstrong (Ballina AC) came into the race with a 64:29 pb from Charleville in 2019. He passed 10k at 29:43 – just a few seconds outside his third place finish time in the National Senior 10,000 at Santry in August.
Running 5k splits in 14:45 14:48, 15:16, 15:25, he crossed the line in 63:37 for an excellent new pb in 70th place overall of 117 finishers.
Kevin Seaward ( St Malachy’s AC) knocked 41 seconds off his best Half time finishing just ahead of Hugh – 58th in 62:58.
In the women’s race Ann Marie McGlynn (Letterkenny AC) had a great run to finish 42nd overall of 101 finishers with a new pb of 71:40.
Congratulations to all three.
