New Masters Pentathlon record for Patrick
Mayo AC’s top all round athlete Patrick Moran competed in the British Masters Indoor Pentathlon championships at Lea Valley Stadium in Enfield near London on Sunday. Patrick held the Irish record when he competed in o55 category in 2011 and scored 2,565 points over the five disciplines of the pentathlon. He beat that score in Enfield with a total of 2,678 points and fourth place in the British Masters. These are his details – 60 metres hurdles:12.6 seconds, long-jump 4.5 metres, shot putt 8.8 metres, high jump 1.3 metres, 1000 metres: 3 mins:57 seconds. Patrick is now in the o60 category which makes these statistics even more impressive. He was a recent winner at the Mayo Athletics Co Board Awards and has been a regular medal winner at both indoor and outdoor Irish Masters championships over many years. It’s great to see the Shrule native still performing and winning at this level. The pentathlon event is very demanding and Patrick has shown amazing resilience coming back from injury and setbacks to compete successfully. Well done, and long may it last.
