The Great North Run is reputedly the largest half marathon in the world, taking place annually in North East England. It’s been run since 1981 on the 13.1 miles between Newcastle upon Tyne and the coast at South Shields. Well done to Neil Carroll who finished this famous race today in 1:31.05. He warmed up recently with an 32:57 8k pb in Claremorris last month . Thanks to Fiona who sent these pics – rightly proud of her man’s achievement. Neil joins at least one other Mayo AC member Tom Hunt (then M50 category) who completed this race in 1:31 on October 4 1998. The women’s race winner on that cold October day was Sonia O’Sullivan in 71:50. img-20160911-wa0002
