Athletics Ireland have published provisional results of the National Marathon Championships incorporated in last Sunday’s Dublin City Marathon. Competition was keen between clubs nationwide as 2,161 men and 1,046 women competed for individual and team medals.
Mary Murphy (pictured) was our sole medal winner, coming home listed in a time of 4:45.09 to win bronze in the F65 category. Congratulations Mary – a great achievement based on a dedicated training schedule. She won the first of a number of national individual and F50 team medals in the 2011 marathon winning bronze F60, having started running with Claremorris Fit4Life just two years previously.
Her Claremorris neighbour John Nolan produced the run of his life on Sunday – a personal best 2:51.30. He ran an excellent even paced race passing halfway in 1:26, and finished with a negative split. John was two minutes behind our second finisher Brendan Hession at 30k and was three minutes ahead of him at the finish. Well done to both.
