Some more good news of Mayo AC achievements to add to those already reported from the holiday weekend. Two more members ran in Monday’s Belfast Marathon – Anto Devaney finished in 3:16.33, and Anne Marie Staunton in 3:27.57 (3:27.45 chip). We think this is a new PB for Anne Marie beating last year’s 3:28.28 chip finish in the same race. Belfast is obviously a happy hunting ground for her – congratulations. Thanks to Breege Staunton for this news and for the photos, including one of Ciara McDonnell (see earlier Club News) whom she spotted on the Belfast course.
The second leg of the Galway 5k series took place on Tuesday evening at Caltra with Conor Dolan winning again in 16:55 (16:33 last week at Ballybrit). Keith Holland finished in 20:27, a big improvement on last week’s 20:53. It’s great to see Dave Huane back competing. He’s had a tough time with injuries in recent years. He came home at Caltra in 23:50. Well done, Dave.
Last Saturday April 29, Padraic McVann won the Clare Island Adventure race over a 24k course. It was a tough challenge in the strong wind and over the energy sapping elevations. He finished in 1hr 41. Great stuff, Padraic.
The recently cancelled Aclare 8k has been rescheduled for Thursday evening May 18. Padraic is one of the lead organisers of the event which is held in aid of Gallagher House Tubbercurry. Look out for details on our facebook pages.
