John Walkin, silver medal in 60m dash
Connacht Indoors Athlone: Well done to John Walkin who competed in the Senior 60m and got silver. He was delighted with result as he ran his fastest time this year 7.81 and has been only training full time for the past 4 weeks after dealing with injury problems most of this year.
Sunday March 2: Seamus Corbett Memorial Carra Classic 8k (175 runners joggers and walkers)

Women: 1 Ruth Carney 36.54, 2 Laura Heneghan 37.06, 3 Orla Costello 38.23
Good to see Anto and Noel back in action too after their tough races last week in Meath and finishing first and second. Laura Heneghan had a great race too and finished second woman in 37:06, just 12 seconds behind winner Ruth Carney.

Turning a corner …John Byrne in Meath
After his magnificent Masters medal winning cross country race last week, John Byrne returned to Meath today (Sun) for the Spring Half Marathon hosted by Bohermeen AC. (656 finishers). He repeated last week’s form and was just 12 seconds off his PB in finishing a brilliant second in 70.51. Mark Christie (Mullingar Harriers) and an Olympian, was the winner in an impressive 67:16 in blustery conditions. They will both line up in the Rotterdam marathon next month with personal bests high on the agenda. The years slip by quickly in the running world and it will be a big confidence boost for the Straide native that he is achieving half marathon times almost two minutes better than 2007 when he ran 71:29 at Stranraer.

Kinvara 10k: Margaret Glavey was first o60 in 46:35 and 13th woman overall. Kinvara results are at www.precisiontiming.net
Westport parkrun (45 participants). Colette Tuohy finished 2nd overall 19:04, in action again after her momentous race last week in Dunboyne.
There are just five weeks to go to the National 10k – entry details will appear on our events calendar. You’ll see lots of races coming up there if you want to test the form ahead of Dublin.
