Mayo Indoors results

Saturday February 2:
Mayo Indoors Championships Athlone AIT arena
There was a 10am start for Co Mayo athletes at Athlone with most of the clubs in the county represented. Juveniles from u9 upwards competed in relays over 100/200 metres and as individuals in distances up to 1500.

Seniors and masters including guests competed with u19s as entries were low. Well done to our five competitors, some of them racing indoors for the first time which is good to see. The county  championships is an ideal opportunity for many, and Athlone is a great facility.
Mayo Athletics Co Board message says “Despite frost and snow a large number of athletes travelled to Athlone. This was the first time for some of those athletes to compete on a world class indoor arena.  Competition was very keen in all events. Thanks to all who travelled to Athlone, to all who helped in any way in the smooth running of the event”
Congratulations to our medal winners:

Tony O’Malley won senior men’s 800 metres – only entrant.

Rebecca McHugh was first in senior women’s 60 metres

Breege Staunton won senior 200 metres with Rebecca McHugh second.
Senior men:
Declan Owens finished first in 400, second in 200, second in 60 metres (7.81), with Cormac Kearney 7.84
