Mayo Cross Country League Leg 1

Today marked the start of the 2022/23 Cross Country championship and league season for county, regional and national competitions.

Belleek was the setting for the first leg of the Mayo league. The event was hosted by Moy Valley AC. The Junior Senior Masters races were preceded by Mayo National Schools Cross Country Championships with hundreds competing.

Junior, masters women plus M65 men ran 4k. – a field of 13.

Caitlin Hughes Swinford AC was the only junior athlete and finished first. Norah Newcombe Pieterse was second and led seven Mayo AC masters women across the line:

2 Colette Tuohy, 3 Paula Donnellan, 4 Pauline Moran, 6 Noreen McManamon, 8 Joan Walsh, 9 Breege Staunton

Patrick Sweeney was the only M65 finisher.

In the men’s race Sean Gallagher Moy Valley AC finished first. Mike Griffin was second and Anto Devaney ninth. 12 finishers.

The second leg of the Senior Masters league is at Ballinrobe Racecourse on October 9.

The third leg is at Mellett’s Hill Swinford on October 30
