Mayo AC @ Connacht XC + results

Medal winners: Brendan Gill 1st Novice, Henry Hughes 2nd Novice, Robert Malseed 1st Masters

Mayo AC had nine runners at the Connacht Novice and Masters Cross Country Championships at Calry today. A number of underage races took place beforehand. This factor and  a couple of showers ensured the course was well churned up by the start of the two races. Throw in a tough hill, and the conditions were hard. Novice women and masters men competed together over four laps – 4k. The men did the same over 6k.

In the women’s masters race Angela O’Connor showed the way from the start and her experience, running style, and determination proved again why she is a top class masters athlete. She was first overall, followed home in third by a great run from Joan Walsh, with Pauline Moran fourth. Ann Murray and Mary Moylett consolidated the points as they won the team medals.
In the Combined Novice/Masters Men’s race Henry Hughes led off at a good pace. Brendan Gill took over the lead and won the Novice gold comfortably, with Henry taking silver and making it a worthwhile trip home from London. He is heading to Dublin in a couple of weeks for his first marathon  Robert Malseed also easily won the Masters race, ensuring Mayo AC runners won three of the four races. A good day’s takings. These results are provisional as we await official list which will be added here. There are no masters category medals to be won in Connacht!
