The National Half Marathon Championships took place today incorporated in the Ratoath AC race. This marked a welcome return of the annual event for first time since 2019.

Runners had a early race start 0930 on a beautiful still autumn morning at Fairyhouse Racecourse.
This was the start and finish base for the 13.1 mile race with a one lap loop out around Kilbride. The finish line was in front of the grandstand.
Well done to the 10 members who represented us today – our smallest number in this competition in many years. However, as we’ll see some fantastic quality perfomances and excellent results right the way through from 35+ to M70+ in the master’s categories.
They were all up well before dawn to head east.  We had two teams and all ten individuals competing for national medals.
These are their finish times:
 Women’s W50 team:
Monica Joyce W60 1:46.20 = a brilliant pb – which says it all! And well placed in F60 category.
Colette Tuohy W50 1:31.30 – a well deserved bronze for another consistent performance in this very competitive category.
Pauline Moran W65 1:34.08: what can we say after last week’s mountain running heroics? A clear winner of F65 gold in a new pb – amazing!
Their cumulative 4:51.57 time looks like gold team ahead of Raheny Shamrock and Lucan ACs.
Men’s 35+ team
Andrew Hayes M40 1:29.40
Michael Kelly M35 1:27.57
Darren Flanagan M35 1:21.44
Tom McNicholas M45 1:38.37
First three Andrew, Michael and Darren cumulative time 4:19.15, in a very creditable 20th place of 40 teams.
Paula Donnellan W40 1:35.19
James Murtagh M55 2:03.26
Patrick Sweeney M70 1:39.01 a wonderful run by the Achill athlete over his favourite distance, and a brilliant gold M70 just two seconds ahead of a great master runner Barrie Potts Donore Harriers AC.
All above are gun times which determines finish place of individuals with team results based on cumulative times of first three.
So provisionally that’s one gold team medal in W50, and three individual category medals – gold for Pauline and Patrick and bronze for Colette.
Two brilliant runs by our 2022 newcomers –  Darren who led our finishers home in 1:21.44, and Patrick 1:39.01 M70.

Monica, Colette, Paula, James, Pauline, Darren

An excellent club perfomance all round – congratulations to medal winners and well done to all ten finishers.

As said all above provisional – subject to Athletics Ireland publishing official results.
