Mayo AC Summer Series Ballyhaunis 5k results
After yesterday’s Run West 10 mile event, runners were back on the roads at Ballyhaunis this evening for the third race in Mayo AC 2019 Summer 5k Series (June 4).
Race HQ was at the Rugby Club with excellent warm up/warm down facilities around the adjacent pitch. By race start time the day’s persistent rain had eased slightly – and some relished these conditions.
Jake O’Regan (St John’s AC) won in a fast 15:29 – another excellent display on a course that has some challenging sections. He was 15 seconds up on his winning time in Castlebar last week. Brendan Conway (Westport AC) was second again this week – he’s also in great form and his 16:19 finish was thirty seconds faster than 2018 when he won this race. Garry Scully was third with a very strong finish in 16:54.
Michael Rocke was the first Mayo AC finisher in 4th place in 17:25
Sean Hynes was their next member home in 18:23 beating John Nolan (18:25) in a tight battle to the line.
Last week’s womens race winner Edel Reilly also made it a double finishing impressively in 18.53. All the more so as she ran a fine race in the Women’s 10k in Dublin on Sunday in 39:48. Catherine Conway Mayo AC improved on her Claremorris 5k winning time coming home in second place in 19:15, ahead of Serena Tuffy (Ballina AC) – third in 19:31.
There was a good turnout from Mayo AC including a close finish between Monica Nee 21:41, Erika Ryan 21:52 and Sheelagh McDonnell 21:54. Well done too to Maria Kneafsey who ran a 52:46 10k in Dublin on Sunday and was a minute faster than Castlebar last week finishing this evening in 24:11.
There were quite a few of yesterday’s Run West 10 runners in action again this evening – fair play to them.
Well done to all 113 finishers in Ballyhaunis .
