Some results from a few races over the past week. Well done to all Mayo AC finishers and congratulations to those who achieved personal bests.

Swinford 5k Wed August 25: a very warm evening for for the fourth Harvest Series race – 22°c tested the energy levels. The one lap course started and finished opposite the Community Centre on Park Road. Another good turnout for this low key popular series. A number from Mayo AC were among the finishers. Present and former members included –  Edel Reilly, Dee Corcoran, Roger Clarke, Ray Clarke, Tom Hunt, Michael McNeela, PJ Hall, Breege Staunton, Christine Regan, Dominic Regan and possibly more.

Next week’s Harvest Series 5k is at Midfield Wednesday September 1. Reg at F12 VE20 6:30 for 7pm start.
Roscommon Harriers continued their 5k series on Friday evening (27th).  Adrian Smith from the host club was first home in 16:57, a 13 second improvement on the previous week when he was third. Jackie Kelly (Ferbane AC) was the first woman home again in 20:04.

l-r Edel Reilly and Paula Donnellan at Larne where they both finished with half marathon pbs.

Four members crossed a few borders to compete in the

Larne (Co Antrim) Half Marathon on a coastal course Sunday morning (29th) starting at 9am.
It’s one of those ‘fast flat courses’ much sought after by Mayo AC runners looking for pbs – and proved fruitful for them today!
Mayo AC finishers (gun time/chip time) were:
Sean Hynes 1:18.06/ 1:17.24, Eamonn Joyce 1:21.10/1:20.29, Edel Reilly 1:28.54/1:27.53, Paula Donnellan 1:34.24/1:33.24, Thomas Jennings 1:41.17/1:40.03;
Sean, Edel and Paula all recorded PBs.
Easkey (Co Sligo) was the local setting for another coastal event on Sunday (29th).  Easkey is a popular surfing venue – the three races 10 mile, 10k, and 5k all starting in waves (on land!) at noon.
Conditions were ideal with a gentle breeze off the sea along the various routes.
Local man Dessie Burke (Ballina AC) won the 10 mile in 56:54; Tara Malone (Enniskillen RC) was first woman home in 70:26. Johnny Cribbin (Mayo AC) just dipped under the 70 minute mark to finish 12th in 69:33. Breege Cribbin (Mayo AC) also completed the 10 miler in 93:26.
 Paul Barr (Innisfree AC) won the 10k in 37:18, with Eimear O’Brien (Sligo AC) 4th and first woman in 38:45. Mayo AC duo Ray Clarke 6th in 41:26, and Dee Corcoran – second woman in 45:28 – both recorded pbs. They’ve put in a lot of work over the past 6 months and were justly rewarded. Dee has consistently improved her times and Ray beat his previous best 10k by 4 minutes!
Conor McLoughlin (Moy Valley AC) was the 5k winner in 17:24, and Carmel Fallon first woman in 22:43. Tom Hunt (Mayo AC) came home in 22:38.
