Claire Charlton on course in Kiltimagh

According to the organisers 13,000 runners signed up to run the KBC Virtual Dublin Marathon (full marathons, half marathons, four-mile and 10-kilometre in their own locality) which had to be completed over the Bank Holiday weekend – Saturday to Monday. Although the current results show 3,696 listed as completing a marathon, there may be some more people to add their times.

Under the new restrictions people had to stick to within a 5k radius of their home in the villages, towns, and cities of Ireland and by many around the world.

Now in it’s 41st year, those taking part in the virtual event were able to download a specially designed app for the occasion.

It allowed them to track their time and distance as well as a live tracking facility.

Entrants had to complete the 26.2 miles over one continuous period.

Sean Hehir (Metro/St Brigid’s AC) 2:21.43 was the fastest finisher.
