Anne Ronayne Community Sports Development worker with Mayo Sports Partnership and the driving force behind the establishment of Fit4Life in Mayo complimented Mayo AC on what has been achieved to date and wished them well with their summer programme saying
“The 3 Fit4life groups under Mayo AC namely Claremorris, Castlebar and Ballinrobe are to be highly commended for becoming great success stories.
These Meet and Train groups are only as good as their leaders and all 3 groups have brilliant leaders who have worked really hard to make these groups the successes that they are.
It is great to see the way the groups can work together too, sharing advice and helping each other out when needed.
The concept of Fit4life is very simple ‘come along, drop in , no pressure, you can walk, jog or run’ it’s up to you to do what you want to do and the promise is that there will be someone there to help you do that.
Mayo AC have been a great example too of forward thinking as by embracing the 3 fit4life groups, they have found a great base of club members who indeed now some of them also participate in events, some at a very high level although I’m certain when they started out they wouldn’t have dreamed of such things.
I am delighted to see Fit4life going from strength to strength, we at Mayo Sports Partnership have been to the fore promoting the concept of ‘Meeting and Training’. For the past few years.
It is proven that people find it much easier to exercise with others, are more motivated and more likely to enjoy it and also enjoy the benefits of the social networking.
Following on from an incredibly successful 2011 women’s mini marathon on May 1st there are lots of people out in the community now that I’m sure are looking for a means to keeping up their fitness and what better way than to join your local meet and train group? Why not take part in the upcoming June 5k fit4life series?
The upcoming 5k Fit4life series is a ‘no frills’ event. The inaugural series was in 2010 and was a roaring success with over 120 participants in each of the series. This year I expect a great interest in the 5k series and I would advise walkers, joggers and runners to support the events. Last year on the night of the final series a barbeque was included and it was a brilliant night of fun. Don’t forget to book your place for the series, make sure to get in on time as it’s likely to be limited to a certain number of participants this year.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mayo AC for their partnership and wish them well in all their endeavours. I would like to thank and wish all the best to the Fit4life groups and their leaders and wish them all the best with the 5K series.
