As we anticipate the medals and prize presentations at our end of season party, it’s worth recalling recent medals won by our four members in the International Cross Country in Derry.
An example of the effort involved in winning one of those medals is provided by the attached photo.
The exciting finish to the F60 race at Derry is apparent as Pauline Moran (Mayo AC/Ireland) and Gail Duckworth (England) headed stride for stride to the finish line. Pauline glanced across, renewed her finish effort and they crossed the line together – both given the same time 27.01 for the testing three lap 6k course. Pauline was adjudged the winner despite the result being contested by England. Our earlier report said that Pauline led the F60 team to gold. However, this was an error in recording results via mobile connection during the medal presentation banquet on the Saturday night. Official results show England in gold (2,5,6= 13 points) and Ireland silver (1,3,10=14). Results attached.
The unique medals awarded by the host country show images of Derry including the Peace Bridge over the river Foyle which was adjacent to the event’s main hotel HQ.
Our four winners have been requested to bring their medals to the
end of season party. Some National medals won during the year will be presented, as will prizes to winners in our 2017 Vodafone C&C Cellular Club League.
It takes place on Saturday next December 2 at the Dalton Inn, Claremorris from 9pm. All are welcome.
