Mayo AC @ Carney Half and 10k

Four Mayo AC Castlebar-based runners competed in today’s Annual Carney 10k and half marathon.

The popular north Sligo event has two excellent courses: the half is an ‘out and back’ along the coastal road to Raughly Harbour; the 10k is one lap via Lissadell beach – with both finishes at Carney village.
Both Padraic and Angela McVann have raced in Carney previously and obviously enjoy the event which has a HQ at Oxfield Sports adjacent to the village .
Today they ran the half-marathon. Padraic finished 24th in 1:36.04 and Angela came home in 1:54.22.
Race winners were Donal Egan North Sligo AC 1:16.05, and Heather Foley Sligo AC 1:28.00
104 finishers
In the 10k, Ray Clarke had a great run to finish 11th overall and 3rd M50 in 40:30 – an excellent new PB beating his recent 40:56 finish in Tubbercurry by almost half a minute.
Not to be outdone Dee Corcoran finished 4th woman overall and 1st W40 (outside of top three) also in a brilliant time 43:30 – probably a PB as she ran 43:58 at Tubbercurry.
It’s impressive 10k running as Carney is nothing like as easy as the well publicised pancake terrain of Kilmovee!
10k race winners Féidhlim McGowan NSAC 32:16, Michelle Donnelly Carmen Runners 39:34.  155 finishers
Well done to our Carney 4.
