A number of members competed today at Westport 40 – a festival of athletics to celebrate Westport Athletics Club’s 40th anniversary. The main events were 10k and 5k – both one lap races.
In the 10k there were top cash prizes for the first 6 home, first/second in categories from o40 to o65, wheelchair and team prizes.
The 10k winner was Gideon Kimosop (1Zero1) 30:23, and first woman home was Laura Shaughnessy (GCH) 35:49.
Tom Prendergast led the Mayo AC competitors across the line in an excellent 14th place overall and first M50 in 37:24. Norah Newcombe Pieterse was our next finisher 16th overall and fifth woman in 37:59 – a great time in a very competitive women’s race.

Mayo AC women’s team were first :Norah, Sarah and Mags, with GCH in second.
Mayo AC men’s team Tom, Tony and Padraic were 4th, and John, James and Noel in our team 2 were 5th.

10k results (97 finishers):
On Friday evening there were 4x1mile relay races for men and women. GCH won the men’s event in 18:50, and Westport AC Jnr won the women’s in 23:52.
