Mayo AC at the races Sunday April 16

Joy for Gvido Roze in Manchester. Frustration for hundreds in Dublin.

Guido Rose - a marathon PB in Manchester

New Mayo AC member Castlebar-based Gvido Roze ran the Manchester Marathon today in a new PB 3:15.15. He ran a well paced race and was close to a negative split- 1:36.39/1:38.36.

It was his first run in a Mayo AC vest and his second ever marathon (first was Dublin 2022, 3:27:10). Congratulations Gvido!

This morning’s National 10k (incorporated in Great Ireland Run) in the Phoenix Park ended in farce. After a  ‘triangle’ section start, runners were due to go anti-clockwise but went clockwise, and finished with an approximate 8.6k completed. Major frustration for a field of more than 3,000 entries, including club runners from the 32 counties competing for championship medals. 1822 finishers are listed.

This is a statement issued by Athletics Ireland following today’s event:

And here’s The Irish Times report – not that it’ll change anything, we live in hope!

We had seven set to compete there today- all up before the crack of dawn to be ready for 10am. Well done to Andrew Hayes, Colette Tuohy, Tony O’Malley, Angela O’Connor, Pauline Moran, Paula Donnellan Walsh and Breege Blehein who completed the 8.6k in that order.

Their times are on on this link

Pre farce smiles from our seven representatives!
