Mayo AC @ AAI Games, Morton Stadium
Mayo AC competed today at the AAI Games World Athletics Challenger permitted event at Morton Stadium.
It was a blustery wet day for all outdoor sporting activities.
In the men’s 200m there were five heats. Brilliant running by John Walkin earned him 3rd place in heat 5 in 25:59, an outdoor season’s best and personal best. Though wind-assisted it is a great confidence booster preparation race ahead of the National Masters Outdoors August 12.
Mayo AC were among 5 teams in the inaugural Mixed Relay 4 x 400m National championships.
Apart from Mayo AC there were 3 from Dublin area Crusaders AC plus 2 from Dundrum South Dublin AC and one from Cork – Carraig na BhFear AC (just north of Cork City)
Our Mayo AC team Declan Owens, Paula Donnellan W40, John Walkin M40, Claudia Davey finished in 4:43.28 – well done! As John said ‘bear in mind we had two masters in team’.
The winners were DSD AC ‘A’ in 3:36.00
– now a senior mixed relay national record.
The mixed relay Irish National Record is : 3:12.88 – Ireland (2021) – Cillin Greene, Phil Healy, Sophie Becker, Christopher O’Donnell
