Mary Cullen inducted into Hall of Fame

Sligo’s greatest athlete Mary Cullen (North Sligo AC) returned to Rhode Island USA at the weekend where she was inducted into the Providence College Athletics Hall of Fame. The Drumcliffe native attended the college on a sports scholarship (2001-2006).

In 2006 she became the fifth Providence College woman athlete to win an NCAA
individual title when she captured the 5,000 metres at the 2006 National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Outdoor Track Championships.
Mary competed in the 5,000 metres at the 2007 Osaka World Championships
In 2009, she won bronze in the 3,000 metres in the European Indoor Championships in Turin, finishing in 8:48.47. Earlier that year she ran 3,000 metres in 8:43.74 in Boston – still a national indoor record.
