The course was made up of three fields with a full lap of 1300 metres. Mayo AC’s nine entries competed in two races.
Martina O’Connor was our lone runner in the women’s Novice race incorporated in the women’s 4k. She ran a great race to finish first of 13 novice competitors and an excellent 4th overall of the 39 finishers. She leads the Novice league after this first race of three.
Martina had a great run in the Co Mayo Cross Country on October 3 where she finished second to Edel Reilly and is improving with every race.
There were seven members competing in the women’s/men 65+ event. The 4k was scheduled to be approximately three 1300m laps, but one field was ‘missed out’ and competitors ran about 3.35k.
Our W50s team ran brilliantly. They were led home by Colette Tuohy 9th overall and 2nd W50. Angela O’Connor was 12th overall and 3rd W50; Pauline Moran 15th overall, Noreen McManamon 22nd, and Monica Joyce 31st completed an excellent performance by our W50s.
Paula Donnellan W35 has had a busy season so far and she finished 16th overall.
Tom Hunt in M65+ category also ran in the same 4k race finishing 29th overall.
We welcomed new member Ciaran Reaney this month. Well done to him running his first race in club colours today in the men’s race, finishing 33rd of 37 finishers.
Sligo AC athletes won both races today – men: Emmett Dunleavy, women Aoife Kilgallon.
Leg 2 of the Connacht League is at Belleek on Sunday October 31. See events calendar for details.
