Marathon PB for Gerry Kirrane in Mullingar

Olympian Rob Heffernan with marathon PB man Gerry Kirrane in Mullingar

The ‘Marathon Mind’ took place this morning at Mullingar. The start and finish was at Columb Barracks Mullingar and took in the Old Rail Trail Greenway, Royal Canal Greenway and the shores of Lough Ennell.

Well done Gerry Kirrane Mayo AC who finished 10th of the 441 finishers in 3:03.18. He ‘chased home’ two Irish Olympians – both well known champion walkers, Colin Griffin 4th 2:55.07, and Rob Heffernan 6th 2:57.46.
That’s a new personal best for Gerry we think – he ran 3:04.49 in Clogher last year. He’s been making excellent progress in recent years, including some fast times in the 2021 East Mayo AC Summer 5k series and he clocked a new 10k pb in Charlestown in September 38:09.
Race winner was David Griffin 2:50.01
The event details say the aim of Marathon Mind is  “to train the mind to make the body strong, not the other way around.”
