Mags is in flying form in Perth

Mags Glavey is one of our masters marvels as you’ll know from postings here recording her many achievements over recent years. Mags was in gold medal flying form last week on the track in Tullamore. She is currently on a visit to Australia, and just 36 hours after the long haul trip to Perth she was competing in the Chevron City to Surf Perth running Festival. It has a marathon, half marathon, 12k, 4k fun run and walk and a 4k wheelchair event.

It’s run annually on the last Sunday in August and this year over 31,000 took part. The event has a festival atmosphere at both the start in Perth City and even more so at the finish at City Beach overlooking the sparkling Indian Ocean

Mags ran the 12k (7,651 finishers) in 57:07 and was delighted to find out she was first home in the W60-69 category which had 77 entries – “my time wasn’t great but there were some serious hills”.

That’s serious running, 4:45ks.
Well done Mags!

We understand that Mayo CoCo are taking the opportunity to make repairs to sections of worn out road on the hard shoulder of the Swinford bypass while she’s away.

Irishman Chris O’Neill was the marathon winner in 2:32.02. He’s based in Melbourne but took the trip to Perth – a place he calls home apparently.
