Knockmore, Kilmaine 10k results

There were a couple of 10ks today as March went out more like a lion than a lamb. Windy showery conditions were the common denominator at Knockmore and Kilmaine as Mayo AC runners  featured among the top finishers at both locations.

In the Knockmore GAA 10k John Byrne (Mayo AC) celebrated the end of his M35 zone with a clear win in 33:43, and on this evidence he’ll be looking forward to adding a lot more race victories to the hundred plus achieved so far in his career.

Robert Malseed was second 35:41, and Anto Devaney edged out Sean Gallagher (Ballina AC) in an exciting finish for third place in 37:04. Ann Murray (Mayo AC) underlined her recent comeback form with a fine win in the women’s race 45:22. AnneMarie Staunton (Mayo AC) also ran a great race for second in 46:06, and Laura Gibbons was 3rd in 46:12. The 5k winners were Michael Canty (Ballina AC) 16:44, and Mags Glavey (Mayo AC) led the women home in fast 22:28. Reports say the event was well organised and the course was good. No results file to hand but will be added if received.

Over at Kilmaine the Hartnett Physical Therapy 10k took place with 86 finishers.

Noel Gibbons had his second win in a row in 37:15. Nickolai Buceanu was second in 37:17. He heads out from Dublin by bus almost every weekend to a different location, runs a race, and says it’s a great way to see the country and meet people. Sean Murphy (Mayo AC) was third in 38:23. The women’s race was won by Paula Walsh 45:05, with Edel Feeney (Mayo AC) next home 45:51, and Lorraine O’Connell third 46:40. Ann McDonnell (Mayo AC) 47:33 was fifth, moving well after her marathon pb last weekend in Rome. Maria Nolan 52:20 was another Mayo AC finisher.
