The fifth race in East Mayo AC’s Series was held near Knock Airport on Saturday last. The series has provided ‘fun, competitive and safe events’ – and opportunities to resume racing – ten clubs were represented among the results.
A low mist covered the Business Park as the assembled pods took off on a mostly downhill one lap 6k course- apart from a stiff climb between 4 – 5k.
The race winner was Dessie Burke (Ballina AC) in 20:40, from James Frizzell (GCH) second, and David Tiernan (East Mayo AC) third.
Seven Mayo AC runners were among the 50+ finishers : Gerry Kirrane, Johnny Cribbin 24:45, Tadgh Hanrahan, Paula Donnellan 25:31 – first woman across the line- Andy Neary, Stephen Skillington, Tom Hunt 29:08.

Athletics Ireland have announced a 33 strong squad for the European u20 Championships in Tallin Estonia July 8-11.
It includes three Connacht athletes who have been in record breaking form recently:
Cian McPhillips Longford AC 800m, 1500m
Conor Cusack Lake District AC javelin
Robert McDonnell Galway City Harriers 200m, 400m
Finn Valley AC are celebrating their Jubilee with a Grand Prix of races. One of the events took place at the weekend. The Glenmore 10 attracted a good field from near and far. Among them were three Corran AC runners who have been sharpening up at the East Mayo AC series. They were Brendan Brett 65:40, Kieran Coleman 67:25 and Joe Stagg 74:38. Paddy O’Toole (Westport AC) finished 19th in 62:17 just ahead of Neil Conlon (Boyle AC) in 62:47.
The first finisher (of 178) was Steven McAlary, City of Derry Spartans AC in 51:36.
