Kathy Gleeson is overall winner at Irishtown 8k
Today’s Irishtown 8k was also a Mayo AC 2016 Vodafone C&C Cellular Club League race. It was the first of five Club League 8ks/5mile target races or bonus events, so a good marker for those looking to gain points.
The course is one lap starting and finishing near the Community Centre and has some tough stretches, particularly over the final two kilometres.
Kathy Gleeson continued her successful season coming home first woman and uniquely first overall in 31:04. She finished fourth last year in 31:31. Kathy was just a few seconds ahead of the first man Patrick Walsh in 31:14. Masters athletes the majority of the prizes – with Mayo AC the main winners. well done to all the finshers. Prizes were presented by event sponsors: Claremorris Credit Union, Spar Ballindine, JT Menswear Claremorris, Hughes Marble Claremorris and Paul Hunt’s Hillside Service Station Claremorris.
