John Gordon second on World Marathon Day in Attymass

John Gordon on the road at Attymass
The annual World Half Marathon Day was celebrated on Saturday last (January 14) at Attymass – a village a few miles south of Ballina.
It was organised by Cezary Lubinski and held over a looped course starting out from the Community Centre – six laps made up the 26.2 miles.
John Gordon (Mayo AC) finished second in the marathon in 2:54.30. It was won by Aiden Hogan (Cork City AC) in 2:53.47 so John had a ‘pacemaker’ at the head of the small field of 24 finishers. John also finished second in the race last year in 3:09.51, behind winning clubmate John Byrne 2:48.51, and recorded a personal best marathon time in Dublin last October in 2:50.53.
Great running John!
Rosarii Dunne (Marathon Club of Ireland) was first woman in 3:57.22.
There was also a half marathon 3 laps over the same course.
