An Mayo training section for rainbow warriors

The C & C Cellular/Vodafone Mayo Indoor Athletic Championships were held in Claremorris at the weekend.

Declan Owens was our only competitor. As the lone entrant he won the Senior 60 and 200 metres events. He also won the 400 metres finishing ahead of Donnacha Kennedy (Claremorris).
In the Irish National Indoor Junior and U23 Championships in Athlone on Sunday, last year’s junior champion Michaela Walsh of Swinford AC , moved up an age to the U23 age group winning with 14.94m in the women’s 4kg shot put. It was a new Indoor personal best for Michaela who now prepares for the National Senior Championships which will take place at the end of next month.
The big road race of the weekend was the 34th Annual Raheny 5 organised by Raheny Shamrock AC. Sligo based John Travers  (Donore Harriers AC) was the winner in 23:38. Emmett Dunleavy (Sligo AC) was 4th in 24:01. Thanks to Colette Tuohy for update (and for her energetic commitment) on our Sunday morning sessions. They had a nice group out for long run – great turnout on a windy morning. The Castlebar out and back route is still affected  by flooding so they headed off out the Turlough Rd about 1k, turned left on to the Pontoon Rd and crossed there to run a lovely loop around the lake and back in Sion Hill Rd – 11k. Some chose to add on up to 5k down the Greenway and back to bring up to 14/16 k. Feedback was positive. Colette then did a session with the cross country crew who gathered in Claremorris. A good session ahead of Clarinbridge. A number of members were involved with their juveniles competing in the  Mayo indoors in Claremorris.
