It’s the season for Cross Country
The cross country season begins in earnest in a couple of weeks time. Mayo, Connacht, and National events are listed on our calendar. All championship events are open to club members and well worth a try. Our season opens with the Mayo Championships on October 2 over a well established excellent course at Belleek. Cross country running is a natural terrain version of long distance track or road running. Race courses can be twisting, technical and demanding. They can be a major training asset in building endurance and strength and not least in keeping motivation going during the winter – as well as an enjoyable experience. We’ve had lots of success at provincial and national level over the years. However, there’s been a disappointing drop off in members competing in recent years with just a dozen or so in total running in all events last year. After Belleek there’s the Connacht races over three legs at three venues to be confirmed and the Open Autumn races at the National Sports Campus, Abbottstown, Dublin which are also Masters Trials. All known details are on our events calendar.
